Lowo Cave Trenggalek, East Java - One of the most famous tourist destination in East Java is the cave. East Java is one of the most visited cave tours in Indonesia. Lowo Cave is located in the Kabupaten Trenggalek, a small district located in the western part of East Java province. People usually knew with a withe sand beach that extends along the South of The County. According to the legend, this cave are discovered by a holy person who stay ther in afew time to get the Guidance from the God. His name is Mbah Lomedjo, and when he found the cave it is be habited by many bat (Lowo : Java red). Therefore, the cave is named after, and known by Lowo Cave. Recently, the bats are still inhabit there at some certain corner of the cave.
Lowo Cave is approximately 1.5 hour away from down town of Trenggalek City. This cave is a must visited place you must put on your list, because it has an unique stalagmit and stalagtit that formed naturally. Stalagtit and stalagmites are formed from water droplets wich is flowing from the roof of the cave. Under the cave there are also small stream, gurgling in the botom of the cave that accompany you to the central of the cave. Located in Desa Watuagung, Kecamatan Watulimo, there are a road to Prigi Beach, another tourist destination that completing your journy. If you don't have private transportation, you can take a public transportation that is easy to be found. Lowo Cave is about 180 miles away from Surabaya.
There are special facts of Lowo Cave Trenggalek. Beside it has a beautiful natural stone wall, it is also recognized as the largest cave in Southeast Asia, even in Asia. This was presented by a French cave Scientis named Mr. Gilbert Manthovani and Mr. Robert K Kho with, with the length of the cave is estimated 2 km. Recently, the cave area that is managed by Dinas Pariwisata ( Tourist Department) is about 800 m along. In the future, this cave is still in continuous improvement and embellishment. With better management, the tourist can see 9 main room and another small ones. According to the cave manager, there are the stone which makes sound if it is been struct.
