Borobudur Temple - Borobudur Temple is one of the largest temple in Indonesia. And it also used to be one of the seven wonder in the World. Borobudur is the biggest temple in 9th Century with size 123 X 123 m. Borobudur had been build before Angkorwat in Cambodia. Borobudur Temple is located at Central Java, Indonesia. Borobudur Temple is a Buddhist temple with 1460 reliefs and 504 Buddhist stupa.
Borobudur is international tourism destination that favored by foreign tourists. Beside it's Magnificent, Borobudur also offer religious journey especially to Buddist, because it was a temple used to pray for Buddhist.
According to it's history, Borobudur was built by King Samaratungga, one of the Old Mataram's King, the descendant of Wangsa Syailendra. Based on Kayumwungan's inscription, Hudaya Kandahjaya revealed that Borobudur was a place to pray that had been build on 26th May, 824, or almost a hundred years since the beginning of it constructio. The name "Borobudur" itself, according to some experts , means mountain that has terraces (Budhara), while some others said that Borobudur means a monastery on a high place.
The construction of Borobudur has shaped in step pyramid with 10 levels and has 42 m in height before renovation, and 34,5 m in height after the renovation, because the ground level is used as for anchoring. Six lowest levels are a square shaped, the next three levels are round shaped, and one highest level is Budhist stupa facing west ward. Each levels has an amazing relief. That reliefs will be read like a life story if you surround it in clock wise direction (from left side of the entrance).
You can digg many stories from Candi Borobudur's reliefs. There are legendary stories such as Ramayana, and also there are the stories of the society life at that time. You can learn from it beautiful relief while enjoying the mighty of Borobudur. It will be better if you hire a tour guide to explain everything about Borobudur Temple.
